The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) on Monday, March 30, will begin work with a construction project that includes several roads on the West Shore in eastern Cumberland County. PennDOT has contracted with Blooming Glen Contractors, Inc. of Blooming Glen, Pennsylvania, at a cost of $2,834,660 to make repairs and resurface the following roads:

Dauphin County Commissioners Jeff Haste, Mike Pries and George P. Hartwick III and their Area Agency on Aging are offering a series of "Senior Seminars" on estate planning throughout the county for older adults, their families and caregivers. The free informative seminars will be conducted by local attorneys.

A host of schools, colleges, employers, community and faith-based organizations, summer youth programs and government agencies are teaming up to offer a free one-day resource fair, the only one of its kind in the region, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 21 at the Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 212 N. Progress Avenue, Harrisburg.

HARRISBURG – Mayor Eric Papenfuse has appointed Cathy Thomas Hall as Senior Assistant, replacing Catherine Stetler, who resigned recently to assume a position with the office of First Lady Frances Wolf. Hall worked as Deputy Executive Director of the Governor's Advisory Commission on African American Affairs under the administration of Gov. Tom Ridge. She served as Contract Specialist, Naval Inventory Control Point in Mechanicsburg; Assistant Branch Manager for Commerce Bank in Harrisburg and Assistant Director of Communications for the Department of Public Welfare.

Housing professionals statewide, may now register for the May 7-8 Housing Forum to be held in Harrisburg. The Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency has been leading the Housing Forum biennially since 1997. The Housing Forum provides an opportunity for people working in the housing field to attend focused educational sessions and interact with their peers. More than 600 people are expected to attend, including developers, bankers, housing advocates, lawyers and government officials.

Harrisburg Bike Share Initiative

Join many Harrisburg organizations to learn about the Harrisburg bike share initiative. The 2015 Harrisburg Bike Share Roundtable offers a forum of community leaders, stakeholders and residents to discuss benefits and impact of the program and to address questions from the community.

This year, Pennsylvania's top doctor is from Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County! The Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians (PAFP) has chosen Richard Harker, MD of Mechanicsburg as its 2015 Family Physician of the Year.

On March 12th at 3:00pm the city of Harrisburg’s newest business, The Millworks, had its grand opening with a ribbon cutting by Mayor Eric Papenfuse. The kickoff event was open to the public. Immediately afterwards, The Millworks opened its doors with dinner service beginning at 4:00pm.

Harrisburg City Treasurer Tyrell Spradley has announced a plan for Harrisburg property owners to sign up for payment plans for 2015 real estate taxes. “Property owners must come into the office, sign up and make their first payment by Tuesday, March 10, 2015,” Spradley said. “There is still time to set up an easy payment plan to pay city real estate taxes.”

Twenty municipalities with serious flooding problems are embracing a new Dauphin County Commissioners’ program aimed at reducing flood insurance premiums by up to 45 percent.
“These municipalities represent 46 percent of the 3,255 flood insurance policies in Dauphin County that cost our residents more than $4.5 million in annual premiums,’’ said commission Chairman Jeff Haste. “Rising flood insurance premiums represents a real threat to home affordability and we’re committed to doing everything we can to help residential and business property owners.’’
