Big Brothers Big Sisters presents Destination Midtown

Written by  Newsworthy

DM-Logo-300x171Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region is hosting Destination Midtown, a charity beer pairing event, to be held on Thursday, August 15, 2013, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. The event will be held on the rooftop of the 1500 Condominium, located at 1500 North 6th Street in midtown Harrisburg.

In previous years, this event was known as Destination Downtown, where downtown venues provided a progressive dinner for event-goers. "We wanted to reach out to the Midtown community because of its socially and civically minded residents. Our main office is in Midtown and we thought Destination Midtown will be a great way to introduce ourselves to the neighborhood." Said Asheleigh Forsburg, Special Events Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region.

This year, the event will be held in a more casual setting. Small plates will be paired with carefully selected, complimentary craft beers. Catering will be provided by Stock's on Second. The breweries participating in this year's event will include Roy –Pitz of Chambersburg, Market Cross Pub of Carlisle, Old Forge on Danville, Jack's Hard Cider of Biglerville, and Millbock Brewing Company of Harrisburg. "One of the things that we're excited about with this event is we're getting local breweries," said Forsburg, "We're excited about supporting these local businesses. A lot of these breweries are pretty small, and hopefully this will help get the word out for them."

For those who purchase VIP tickets, there will be a special reception from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. that will feature exclusive beer and food sampling. Destination Midtown will also include live entertainment by Chelsea Caroline, with pop, jazz and soul music, for guests to enjoy. Attendees will also receive an appreciation bag with a commemorative sampling glass provided by Susquehanna Glass, and they will be entered into a drawing for drawings for gift baskets provided by W&L Sales and others.

Tickets are $50 for general admission ($25 is tax deductible) and $75 for VIP tickets ($40 is tax deductible). Tickets are required and can be purchased in advance online. Tickets are non-refundable and guests must be over 21 years old to attend. This event is made possible through corporate sponsors Saul Ewing, UFinancial and Strategic Consulting Partners.
