On Sunday, December 8, 2013, from 1 – 6 p.m., the Candlelight House Tour “Unique Explorations: Opening Doors for 40 Years” will be held in beautiful midtown Harrisburg. Since Historic Harrisburg’s founding in 1973, it has been holding this annual event where attendees are able to get an insider’s look at area homes and public buildings.
Each year, a different neighborhood is highlighted and homeowners open their doors to guests on this self-guided tour. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Candlelight Tour and will highlight amazing buildings full of character in Harrisburg’s Historic Midtown District. In total, there will be 17 properties on display, including Pennsylvania’s Governor’s Residence, Midtown’s historic Boas Street United Methodist Church, and a Mediterranean style property designed by Harrisburg renowned architect Charles Howard Lloyd.
Also to help commemorate Historic Harrisburg’s 40th year, the tour will feature an art exhibit called “Expressions of Art” that will be held at Studio 919 located at 919 Green Street, Harrisburg. There will be artwork on display from artists around the country and guests will be able to visit the exhibit and purchase the one of a kind art.
The Candlelight House Tour will begin at Historic Harrisburg, located at 1230 North Third Street in Harrisburg. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 on the day of the tour. The Historic Harrisburg Association has a full list of ticket locations on its website.
