Every month, the Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce holds Fourth Friday, where participating galleries along the Susquehanna River in Columbia, Marietta and Wrightsville open their doors to patrons and art lovers. On Friday, May 24, 2013, galleries will be open with art exhibitions. Local eateries, as well as antique and specialty shops will be open for guests to dine and shop along the way.

Thursday, May 23, 2013 – Earl David Reed and Friends

Comedian and 105.7 The X Morning Show co-host Earl David Reed will perform at Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center on Thursday, May 23, 2013, as part of a benefit to help raise funds for Harrisburg River Rescue. Reed has been doing stand-up comedy for 15 years, worked in radio for over a decade, and has performed at over 100 comedy clubs and colleges throughout the country. The event will run from 7 – 10 p.m., with Reed’s performance beginning at 8 p.m. There will be a social hour at 7 p.m. with refreshments, cash bar and raffles to start out the event.

On Saturday, May 18, 2013, the Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center held its own prom event complete with a DJ and a performance by the funk band Shrimpboat. The 2013 Greek Festival was held Friday to Sunday, May 17 to 19, 2013 at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Camp Hill. For three days, members of the community came from all over the area to enjoy the infamously delicious and authentic Greek cuisines, such as Gyros, Souvlaki, Baklava, and more. There was also dancing, colorful costumes and music that was true to Greek culture.

Dog Days of Summer Dog House Painting Competition

Downtown Harrisburg

Downtown After Dark Marketing and Harrisburg Downtown Improvement District will present the Dog Days of Summer event, a dog house painting competition that will benefit the Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance (CPAA). 17 local artists have been selected to paint handmade dog houses that will be on display in downtown Harrisburg during Artsfest from May 25 to May 27, 2013.

MODE at Large: Rock n’ Rescue at the American Legion 974

New Cumberland

On Saturday, May 11, 2013, Operation Paws for Homes (OPH) held a day-long event in support of rescuing dogs of all breeds at the American Legion Post 974 in New Cumberland. Eight area bands performed throughout the event, and vendors were present with merchandise, tattoos, food and a cash bar. Dogs that were rescued from kill shelters and adoptable dogs were present as well, and the OPH staff was on hand to talk about their organization and fostering opportunities.
