On Friday, April 25, 2014, Theatre Harrisburg will hold its opening night for the production of Stephen Sondheim’s musical masterpiece, Sweeney Todd, starring Anthony Leukus and Rebecca Mease, on stage at the Whitaker Center in downtown Harrisburg.
This well-known tale is set in 19th Century England, where Benjamin Barker returns after a 15 year imprisonment. He disguises himself by using the name Sweeney Todd and returns to England with the vow of revenge on the judge who sentenced him, then the rest of the world. In his pursuit, he befriends the town pie-maker Mrs. Lovett and opens a barbershop above her bakery, where he executes his customers by slitting their throats then sends their bodies to her to be baked into meat pies.
Theatre Harrisburg’s production of Sweeney Todd is sponsored by CapitalBlue Cross, Property Management Inc. and Metro Bank. Performances are scheduled for April 26 and 27, May 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10 and 11, 2014. Show times are Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Fridays at 8:00 p.m., Saturday, April 26 at 4:00 p.m., Saturday May 3 and 10 at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m.
