MODE at Large: Dauphin County Brewfest

Dauphin County

On Saturday, July 20, 2013, from 3 to 7 p.m. Dauphin County held its 2nd Annual Brewfest at Fort Hunter Park in Harrisburg. Guests enjoyed a commemorative tasting glass, beer sampling, live music, food and more. There were 15 breweries present for guests to try over 30 craft brews. The breweries attending included Adams, Appalachian Brewing Co., Penn Brewing Co., Millbock Brewing Co., Duquesne Bottling Co., Long Trail, Otter Creek, Victory Brewing Co., Wolaver’s, Traveler Beer Co., and Starr Hill Brewery.

Throughout the event, guests enjoyed live musical performances by local band, Trypod, with live covers and originals of all genres, Central Pennsylvania native and country music artist Ben Gallaher, and Suzanna Choffel, former contestant on NBC’s The Voice.

MODE at Large: Celtic Fling and Highland Games by Jesus Martinez

The Celtic Fling and Highland Games at Mount Hope Estate and Winery were held Friday through Sunday, June 21—23, 2013. Guests celebrated all things Celtic on the 35 acre shire of Mount Hope Estate during the festival. The event kicked off with a concert on the evening of Friday, June 21, 2013 and guests were able to experience first-hand tours of the compelling cultures of traditional and Celtic heritages, including Irish, Scots Welsh, Cornish, Manx, Bretons, and Galecians/Asturians. Throughout the festival, there were traditional pipe bands and modern Celtic rock bands, as well as delicious Celtic cuisine and fresh brewed Swashbuckler ales. Guests had the chance to learn about clans, a group of families that are affiliated by geography, marriage, or political necessity, and search clan histories to find their surname and become familiar with the missions the clans and societies maintain.

MODE at Large: Harrisburg Brewers Fest

Dauphin County

On Saturday, June 15, 2013, Tröegs Brewing Company teamed up with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Central Pennsylvania for the tenth annual Harrisburg Brewers Fest, an outdoor beer and music festival in downtown Harrisburg. The streets were closed off on Locust and Third Streets in Harrisburg for food vendors, up to 50 booths for breweries from all over the region to provide samples, and a stage for performances by Think Tank Trio, Up Pops the Devil and The Dirty Sweet. There were two sessions during the festival for nearly 3,500 beer lovers to attend and sample as many beers as they wished from all of the breweries.

MODE at Large: Lagunitas Brewing Company Beer Dinner at MoMo’s

On Thursday, May 23, 2013, MoMo’s BBQ and Grill in downtown Harrisburg held another one of its notorious beer dinners with Lagunitas Brewing Company beers mixed into the special menu. Guests were able to enjoy brews from one of the country’s fastest growing craft brewers as they were served a five course meal with food items perfectly paired with five different Lagunitas beers.

On Saturday, May 18, 2013, the Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center held its own prom event complete with a DJ and a performance by the funk band Shrimpboat. Camp Hill

The 2013 Greek Festival was held Friday to Sunday, May 17 to 19, 2013 at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Camp Hill. For three days, members of the community came from all over the area to enjoy the infamously delicious and authentic Greek cuisines, such as Gyros, Souvlaki, Baklava, and more. There was also dancing, colorful costumes and music that was true to Greek culture.
