Spooky Nook Sports is a new destination for sports and entertainment in the Central Pennsylvania area, featuring indoor and outdoor fields and courts, a health and fitness center, as well as training areas, a family entertainment area with an arcade, rock climbing walls, ropes courses, a store, food court and much more. This is the largest indoor sports complex in the country.
From Wednesday, August 13 to Saturday, August 16, 2014, beginning at 9 a.m., the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society will host the Bookworm Frollic, a community event that has been around for over 30 years where people can go through over 40,000 used books, magazines, and music for sale. The sale will be held outside the historical society, and with each passing day, the prices will decrease. Some of the used books categories that will be available are religion, psychology, health, textbooks, travel, natural sciences, how-to books, history, music, crafts, classic literature, children and teenager, fiction, biography, sports, foreign languages, and family. Local food will be available, and there will also be new books inside the bookstore that will also be discounted.
Every second Sunday, from June through September, Building Character will feature the 2nd Sunday Flavor Fair, an open gathering for guests to discover Lancaster’s homegrown flavors. There will be local caterers, restaurants, and food purveyors on the premises to offer fresh and delicious dishes for sale. The fair will be located at the rear warehouses of Building Character, a marketplace of vintage, recycled and handmade items, at 342 North Queen Street in downtown Lancaster. In addition to the local fare, there will also be live local music.
On Sunday, July 27, 2014, Schreiber Pediatric Rehab Center of Lancaster County will be hosting their 26th Annual Rubber Duckie Race & Festival at Lancaster County Central Park. There will be food, pony rides, games, clowns, face painting and more for the entire family to enjoy. The festival begins at 2 PM, and at 5 PM there will be 25,000 rubber duckies put in the Conestoga River for an exciting race for great prizes.
Cherry Crest Farm opens at 10 a.m. on the days the farm is open to the public, and has numerous fun activities to keep the entire family entertained all day long. The biggest attraction is the Amazing Maize Maze, where guests will spend about an hour in a 5-acre corn maze with over 2.5 miles of paths, scenic bridges and clues. Maze Masters are on hand to help guests get back on track if they take the wrong path, too. There are also over 50 farm fun activities in the courtyard and barnyard. The courtyard offers entertainment and fun such as wagon rides, pedal carts, a petting zoo, food vendors, a gift shop and rubber duck races. The barnyard has an obstacle course, a singing chicken show, a giant hay chute slide, giant sling shots, the Little Farmers Playland and more.
