MODE At Large: Olde Uptown Harrisburg’s National Night Out

On Tuesday, August 7, the Olde Uptown Neighborhood Association and WCI Partners, LP hosted National Night Out 2012. The event featured a sidewalk chalk decorating contest, a barbershop quartet and the opportunity for citizens to meet local law enforcement officers. The Olde Uptowwn NNO event was followed by the National Night Out Candlelight Walk, and a rally including live music, the Harrisburg Police Athletic League and remarks by Harrisburg Mayor Linda Thompson and Dauphin County DA Ed Marsico. MODE At Large: 5th Annual 2012 Dauphin County Cultural Fest

Market Street, Harrisburg

On Friday, August 3, Dauphin County held the 2012 Cultural Fest in downtown Harrisburg. Cultural Fest featured musical acts Soul & Spirit, A-CHE and the S.O.S. Band, dance performances by the Steeleton Elk's Stepper #21, the McGinley's School of Dance, Troupe Hayati, the Imani African Dance Company and the Chinese Cultural and Arts Institute, as well as demonstrations, crafts and food from around the world. MODE AT Large: Second Annual Corsets & Cocktails Social

MODE Magazine prides itself on doing unique and creative things, from our editorial to our events. The first MODE Corsets & Cocktails social was an absolute smash hit, and we would have been remiss if we hadn’t turned it into an annual event. This year we moved it to Stock’s on Second, in the heart of downtown Harrisburg on Restaurant Row. We brought in DJ Scottie with a fantastic sound and light show, Stock’s offered a $3 Bacardi mixed drink special, and bartenders Owen and Richie mixed great drinks all night.

MODE At Large: Backyard Bash 2012

Backyard Bash, Downtown Harrisburg

On July 21, the Feel Your Boobies Foundation of Middletown held the Backyard Bash 2012 in Harrisburg to benefit breast cancer awareness. Known for their surprising t-shirts and advertisements, the Feel Your Boobies foundation encourages women to routinely check themselves for breast cancer, as early detection is critical to effective cancer treatment. The Backyard Bash has become one of the Middletown Chapter’s biggest fundraising events of the year, bringing hundreds of partygoers together to celebrate for a lifesaving cause.
