Dauphin County’s Wildwood Park to Remain Closed Through Sunday

Harrisburg

On Thursday, May 9, 2013, a tanker truck fire caused fuel to leak into Paxton Creek and along the banks of the lake in Wildwood Park. Because of the spill, about 10 acres of the park’s 200 acres were affected by the fuel leak, but thanks to the Dauphin County HazMat quick response time, further damage to the wetlands was averted by placing booms along the banks of the lake to absorb the oil. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and the Pennsylvania Game Commission have also taken great strides in helping clean the park and protect the wildlife from the oil spill.

Because the cleanup is an ongoing effort, Wildwood Park will be closed until further notice and all programming scheduled through Sunday has been cancelled.
